TV shoot focused on paddling in Belize In October of 2012, Neil Green, Feature Producer of Trans World Sport contacted BCAnoe expressing an interest in a future filming opportunity to profile Canoeing in Belize. Trans World Sport is an hour long, weekly television show based in London and broadcast in over 100 countries around the world. They have enjoyed 25 years of consecutive broadcast. During that time they have spent time filming with the best athletes, sports clubs and festivals from the wide world of sport. The event was filmed on November 17th. We had ten teams that came out to take part in the filming. Those there were, OCEANA Wavemakers, NICH, Belize Bank Bulldogs, Wateva Boyz, Grumpy Old Men, Sea Sports Belize, Sprouts, UB Black Jaguars, UB Lady Jaguars and some teenage boys from Burrell Boom. What we basically did was imitated a race and had several starts so the film crew could take different angles, then through the rapids a couple of times getting some wonderful shots. After which we trucked to Boom to film flat water racing before a finish at the Black Orchid Resort. At the end of it all we all gathered for short social at the resort. We should be getting a video of the show when it airs, however, no date has been set. It was a nice fun day and a great opportunity for Belize to showcase our great athletes in canoe racing. 28 November 2012

The Cheesy Riders are Coming The "Cheesy Riders" from Wisconsin, will be coming to Belize. Dave O'Malley (Waunakee), Jim Delehanty (Verona), and Bill Peschel (Minocqua), all accomplished competitive canoe paddlers, will try their skills in a Masters category of the La Ruta Maya River Challenge this year. The Cheesy Riders (Dave, Jim, and Bill) have been training since last summer. They have participated in many of their local canoe races and have continued to paddle right up to date. This has been the perfect year for this race, with the warmer temperatures and the open water the guys have been able to paddle up to this very day. They have been paddling in 35-50 degree weather, on the Wisconsin River, starting in Sauk City down the river and back up, usually 3-4 hours at a time. Earlier in the fall they spent four days paddling 140 miles on the Wisconsin River from Saint Germain to Stevens Point. We welcome the Cheesy Riders to Belize and wish them well for the Ruta Maya. |

2012 Canoe Season
From the looks of things it seems like the 2012 canoe season has kicked off. It would appear that a race is on in picture, but its several teams have started their training on the river. Noticeable in this mix are Chris Guydis, the Belize Bank Team, NICH, Ziprider and another canoe from the Cayo area.
Scheduled so far is the Boom to Manatee Lookout Race which should be announced shortly and will be held later in the month, followed by the Boom to the City race in February. Then is the Ruta Maya from March 9th - 12th. I also noticed on the 2012 Year of the Maya Calender a Lamanai Race coming up in June in Orange Walk. There will also be the NATS race in Belmopan to coincide with the National Agriculture and Trade Show. Also look out for the Sitter River Easter Race in Stann Creek.
Those interested in kayaking, the TIDE Challenge in Toledo, The San Pedro Two day round the island race, and LoveFM's Belize City to San Pedro 2 day Race.
Those of you whom haven't started to train, you better get those paddles out, dust them off and get them wet. The races are now upon us.
