SPANISH LOOKOUT EXPO - RACE RESULTS
The second bi-annual Canoe Challenge at the Spanish Lookout Commercial and Industrial Expo was held on Saturday, March 01, 2014. The race started at around 11am with five teams participating. Many of the usual teams decided they would conserve their energy for the big race which is only a few days away. To make the race interesting the race coordinator and the association decided to change from race by categories, to having one race and by doing so changed the prize configuration. Taking first honors was Midway, Hener Cruz and Daniel Cruz finishing the 12 laps course in 56 mins and 7 seconds. Wateva Boyz– Jesus Linares, Armin Lopez Jr and Sergio Lopez – sponsored by D & D Consultancy, whom for the most part had to chase for almost the entire race because they had missed their turn around the buoy and had to back track a bit to go around the buoy. This cost them valuable time. With all their efforts, they managed to finished 48 seconds later at second place. Third place went to Westrac – Jerry Cante and Armando Lopez - who completed the course in 1:02:30. Team NICH – Oscar Cordon, Audrey Moody and Nery Waight capsized on the first lap at the first buoy. They lost several minutes before getting upright and continuing. However, they were unable to catch up and had to settle for fourth position with a time of 1:04:25. Taking fifth position was Whistling Ducks, Harry Guerra and Chino Carrillo, sponsored by Whistling Ducks Farm. Special thanks to the race sponsors – Belize Bulldozing, Excel Construction, Diverse Trades, Econo Diesel, Peters Glass Shop, RG Home Builders, Auto Select and Midway Ltd. |

Spanish Lookout Lagoon - Race Results
The first of its kind lagoon race was held at Spanish Lookout on February 25, 2012 to coincide with their Industrial Expo. The weather turned out to be pretty warm which was a good day for paddling. The race got off to a late start at just before 11am.Twelve canoes registered for this 12 lap event. Four buoys were placed at different locations on the lagoon and the canoes had to navigate between the buoys and the shore. It was tricky at first for some teams as many of the paddlers have only done river racing, throwing in buoys made it a bit harder as those made for some sharp turns.Nonetheless, the race was exciting as fans cheered and watched the battles to get to the buoys first, the spills, near spills and skills of the experienced paddlers from keeping their canoes from tipping over while maneuvering those sharp turns at the buoys. Finishing the twelve lap event at 58 minutes and 10 seconds was Westrac paddled by Jerry Cante, Efrain and Hener Cruz to take first male and first overall position. They were followed by NICH paddled by Andrew Condie, Jimmy Valdez and Oscar Cordon at 1hr and 34 seconds, to take second male and 2nd overall.Coming in at 3rd overall and first mixed was Oceana, paddled by Euken Arnold, Chris and Jayda Guydis finishing at 1:02:34. Nonetheless, their pleasure boat was clocked at 1:18:22 to take 2nd pleasure and 10th overall. The juniors place first and second, 11th and 12th overall at times, 1:20:47 and 1:27:53 respectively.
