Patriotic Paddle
A Charitable Fundraising Event
Launched by interim BCA board member John Searle in celebration of the Flower's Bank 14 and the decision to stay and defend the settlement. This event is not a race, but a charitable fundraising event, where proceeds and donations are made to a different organization each year. Paddlers and their teams are encouraged to fund raise and race fees are used to purchase appliances needed by community based organizations. This event is not a race and the teams travel down the Belize River together, as the Flower's Bank 14 would have done when they paddled to the meeting in Belize Town to cast their vote at the June 1, 1797 Public Meeting.

1st Annual Patriotic Paddle
I know that many of you were anticipating a race in September, but however, the race has turned into a Patriotic Paddle on September 1st. BCAnoe Executives thought that it would be best to finish off our paddle season with an act of charity giving back to the community. We hope to make this an annual event with the participation of all our members. This event is in honor of the revisiting the route of the "Flowers Bank 14" paddle to Belize City and in celebration of the decision to defend the Settlement. The goal is to have experienced paddlers begin from Flowers Bank and paddle to Belize City, while the Juniors and fun paddlers will join in at Burrell Boom or Ladyville. The goal is for all teams to paddle together to the Courthouse Wharf in Belize City. Teams will pay a $75 registration which includes, 4 Tshirts, 4 meal tickets and a certificate of participation for each paddler. T-shirts are available for the first 14 teams that register. In addition, each team will raise funds that will be used for donation to the selected charity and annual summer paddle camps scheduled to commence in 2013. BCAnoe will offer a trophy to the top 3 teams that raised the most money during this event. Each team will need to use the BCAnoe standardized sheet for recording ALL donations. (let us know if you need one) This year's recipient will be Hopewell House. Hopewell House is a Children's Home in Flowers Bank Village. They provide, love, security, and hope of a future, to abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned children of Belize. They are committed to giving these children a "family" environment to live and grow into productive members of society. In addition, a portion of the funds raised will go towards a paddle camp program BCAnoe will organize in 2013. The Patriotic Paddle will start in Flowers Bank at 8am, late teams will be allowed to participate but will have to catch up. You can register early or on the same day. Registration Form is available on the site. We encourage all teams to come out and support this event. |
